The Last Few Months
So what have we been up to since our last blog? That is a very good question.
The first thing we did after getting back from the MDS (Click here to read our MDS blog) was take a couple of weeks off to chill. Looking back, is crazy to think that we cycled across Europe, as well as trekked our way across the Sahara, all in the space of around 6 months! So a few weeks of putting our feet up was much needed. But we were not allowed to rest on our laurels for too long. As with all challenges like ours, getting to the start line is half the battle, this couldn't be more true for the TWAC. We continue to bang the Saddle Sand Sea drum, trying to tell anyone and everyone about it, in the hope that they might know someone who might be able to help. We have had a couple of good bits of media coverage though, featuring in Outdoor Fitness (“OF”) and other online media outlets, which is great to get the name out there. We will in fact will be writing a training diary in OF in lead up to the TWAC, so everyone will be kept up to date. We are also in the process of putting together a press launch towards the end of the year, which should hopefully get our name out there even more.
The organisational side of things is one thing that is always in the back of your mind. We have a couple things up our sleeves which we are working on and very much looking forward to announcing in the not so distant future.
We still have over a 14 months or so before we leave to take part in the TWAC, but it will come round terrifyingly soon. It is now time to start thinking about training properly again. Is tough to train for something like this, given how different conditions will be in the gym/on the rowing machine, but is all about getting our bodies strong enough to take the constant regime of 2 hours rowing followed by 2 hours rest. The aim is to get a boat as soon as possible so we can get out on it, and do as many training miles as possible. But given the cost of these things is easier said than done, so we need to continue to reach out to people.
We have both been super confident in our abilities to complete all three events, even if others initially thought we were crazy, and we are super confident again that we will get there and get some sponsors on board to help us along. Much like with the cycle and the run, as long as we keep doing all the right things and constantly push, we will eventually get there. I feel that is much like what it will be with sponsors, is that we have got to keep plugging and eventually all will be good. Always reminds me of the age old adage of “if it was easy, everyone would do it”.
We are also in the process of putting together the final parts of our charity fundraising campaign and look forward to letting you know all about it. That is one of the main reasons we signed up to all this craziness is to raise a really significant amount of cash for our two charities - The Prostate Project and Shooting Stare Chase.
Well that’s it for this time, but keep watching out on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to make sure you don’t miss any updates.
Until next time,
