Not long to go!!!
Sooooooo this first event is getting quite close!!! Race Across Europe is very quickly approaching, with our first day in Europe due on the 27th August. Has been a while since last update so read on to see what we have been up to.
Training continues to go well. We have now changed this to be much more tailored towards race conditions, so it’s no longer about going for long 6/7 hour rides, but shorter 3/4 hour rides, resting for a few hours then doing it all again. It’s a real struggle getting back on the bike having chilled out for a bit, but we both know need to do it, so we just have to grin and bear it. It’s reassuring though, that the work we put in now, will (hopefully) make it all a little bit easier when we are out in the middle of Europe.
It’s surprising that the training isn’t causing too much stress, it’s actually all the other stuff you need to deal with. People always mention it when you do a bit of research into these sort of endurance events, but the actual doing of the event is the easy bit. The admin is a HUGE task in itself. We are currently trying to juggle organising the motorhomes, support crew, physios, kit, insurance, team protocols, food etc... There are so many little, but crucially important things you need to think about for an event like this.
It would be so much easier to just be able to turn up and things to go to plan like in the movies, but unfortunately life is not that easy. I suppose this is all part of it, and if it was that easy, everyone would do it, so shouldn’t complain that much. We are getting there one day at a time and will get there in the end! We are both super pumped for the first event, it should be an amazing experience and awesome couple of weeks heading through 7 different counties in around 12 days.
There have been quite a few people ask us about this first event, and how tough it will be, so to put it into context, we thought would be a good idea to share the stat below:
Le Tour de France: 2131 miles in 21 days
Race Across Europe: 2933 miles in 12 days
This will be a truly epic and horrendous journey all rolled into one, but we couldn’t be more excited about it.
It hasn’t all be tough as we did manage to drag ourselves away from training/organising team logistics to host a launch party at Kensington Roof Gardens. Is a really awesome location and was a great place to launch everything.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended, it was a really great crowd and really meant a lot to us both to see you all there. We will definitely be doing more events over the coming years, hopefully bringing sponsors/press along to future ones, so keep checking up on our blogs and social media pages for the latest info.
Well that’s it for this time, but as always, please spread the Saddle Sand Sea love. Your support is seriously appreciated and will help us immensely in conversations with potential sponsors to show how many people follow us etc.. so click the links below and spread the love!
Best wishes,
